Piecing Together The Y2K Design

BRIEF:
The main aim of this project was to create an immersive augmented reality experience centered around a specific concept. Our aspiration was to craft an engaging experience that seamlessly incorporates emerging technologies into the vibrant landscape of graphic design.
CHALLENGE:
From the available project objectives, I opted to devise a concept aimed at educating viewers through interactive and engaging means. I selected the y2k design due to its intriguing aesthetic from that era, capturing my interest. For my target audience, I chose individuals in their early twenties, as they were born around the time when the full impact of trends from that era might have been missed during their youth. To accomplish this, I structured the concept as a puzzle, allowing viewers to piece together memories from a time they may not fully recall, accompanied by examples from that period.

STICKER DESIGN:
For the sticker design, my emphasis was on incorporating elements that would instantly grab someone's attention whether they're walking by or seated at a table. To achieve this, I opted for vibrant colors and utilized materials and lighting to evoke the y2k aesthetic. I chose to explore three main topics: style, typography, and color schemes.Top of FormBottom of Form
LOCATION:
At my university, the go-to spot for gathering is the union, where students come to dine, study, and socialize. I had the idea of setting up a stand with something interesting for students to peruse while waiting for their food. It could also serve as a conversation starter for those on a first date if things get a bit quiet.
AR EXPERIENCE WALKTHROUGH:
RESEARCH:
Before delving into the design of the AR experience, I conducted thorough research to gather content on the chosen topics and sourced example photos. Recognizing that excessive text can be overwhelming for people, I opted to keep the contextual information brief and straightforward. Instead, I focused on incorporating a substantial amount of photos to ensure a visually engaging experience.
SKETCHES:
When sketching, my primary focus was on determining how the layout of my assets would harmonize and striving to create an engaging experience.
PROTOTYPING:
REFLECTION:
Working with a new program to design assets and integrate them into an augmented reality platform was a completely novel experience for me. It provided a valuable opportunity to delve into a fresh realm of design. Exploring Adobe Aero in its beta phase was particularly exciting, and I look forward to witnessing its evolution into an exceptional tool.
